Friday Prayer Focus - Answer to Prayer

October 31, 2013 11:14 PM by Dan

About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them. Suddenly there was such a violent earthquake that the foundations of the prison were shaken. At once all the prison doors flew open, and everyone’s chains came loose. Acts 16:25-26

Thank you for Your answer to prayer that day for Paul and Silas.  We ask specific things today in peace knowing you understand our position in life.  Whether we are prisoners or free, weak or strong, tired or fired up.  You know us and know the situation we are in.  We believe You will answer our prayers today.

Thursday AM Prayer Focus - a real life

October 30, 2013 10:15 PM by Roger

I suppose all of us have always had a yearning at times to escape reality.  That is not a new modern trouble with our culture.    It's just that we have gotten to be so good at it.

Consider mood altering drugs and alcohol.  We can change the way we feel about almost anything or anyone with chemicals.

Consider plastic surgery.  We can alter our appearance to the point of no recognition.   If I were wanting a daughter to look like my beautiful wife, wouldn't it be good to know that the appearance of my wife was a true representation of her family's genetic pool?

Consider the wonders of our electronic communications.   I don't have to interact with a checker at the grocery store.  I don't have to have a personal phone conversation.   I don't even have to go outside, if I don't want to.  I can recreate an electronic fireplace scene,  an electronic aquarium,  I can take virtual tours of buildings and cities.   I can drive down the streets  of Queens, NY looking at all the storefronts and apartment buildings, without ever leaving Albany, OR.

Of course every grade school boy and girl knows that zombies and vampires are real

Maybe we have lost a bit of reality.  Could we ask God to keep us connected to those parts of life that are real, even if they hurt, or frighten, or frustrate us.

Monday AM Prayer Focus: Glory

October 27, 2013 9:09 PM by Diane

Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen. Ephesians 3:20-21.

Dear God, You are so wonderful. We know that we are are limited in our understanding and comprehension. However You are able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we can even think of to ask. Open our minds and hearts to Your goodness and mercy. Help us to walk out our lives in relationship with You. We give You praise and glory now and forever. Amen.

Saturday: Eternity

October 25, 2013 8:03 PM by Diane

Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; bearing with one another and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do. Colossians 3:12-14.

Dear God, What a powerful verse. First of all You remind us who we are. We are your beloved. That reality is hard to grasp somedays. Give us a clearer understanding what that means and how to rest in Your love. Help us to put down our strife and striving so we can be Your love extended to others. We know this is more than a good idea, or a high and lofty goal. You tell us we must be forgiving even to ourselves. Amen.

Friday Prayer: Hands and Feet

October 24, 2013 10:43 PM by Dan

"Look at my hands and my feet. It is I myself! Touch me and see; a ghost does not have flesh and bones, as you see I have.” When he had said this, he showed them his hands and feet.  Luke 24:39-40

Belief has hands and feet.  Reality is touchable, seeable, able to be experienced.  Lord Jesus, help us to experience You in our lives.  Take us away from seeing ghosts to seeing You.  Let our eyes and ears be opened to Your presence all around us.  Give us an understanding of the power of Your Holy Spirit.  Take away the doubts and questions and give us the arrival of a Pentecost.  We pray for the outpouring of the gifts of the Holy Spirit on the Church today.

Thursday AM Prayer Focus - Safety in our town

October 23, 2013 9:16 PM by Roger

The priestly BLESSING found recorded in Numbers 6 starts out like this,  "The Lord bless you and keep you ..."  I believe the implication is preservation.   May the Lord keep you safe and secure.

Pray for our neighbors who live in this part of the valley that we would have a safe city.   No traffic fatalities.  No accidents and injuries.  No violence in our homes, our schools, our parks, our businesses.  No "natural" disasters.   No house fires.  No crime in our city.   No financial calamities.  No outbreaks of sickness or disease.

"Father, as we bless our city and surrounding valley, we 'invoke Your Name upon our neighbors, that You should bless them'.  In Jesus Name."

Wednesday: A Lifetime with the Lord

October 22, 2013 7:32 PM by Diane

O God, You have taught me from my youth; And to this day I declare Your wondrous works. Now also when I am old and grayheaded, O God, do not forsake me, until I declare Your strength to this generation, Your power to everyone who is to come. Psalm 71:17-18.

Lord, like this psalmist, we want to be faithful to You each day of our lives. From the day we accept You as Lord and Savior until the day we draw our last breath, our desire is to declare your strength, power, and goodness to those around us. Give us spiritual wisdom and and a sensativity to the leading of Your Spirit so we can act in obedience. We are grateful that You are with us no matter how young or how old we may be. Amen.

Monday AM Prayer Focus: Like Children

October 20, 2013 10:56 PM by Diane

When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. I tell you the truth, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it." And He took the children in His arms, put His hands on them and blessed them. Mark 10:14-16.

Dear Jesus, Restore our child like hearts. As we grow up, we can become hardened, suspicious, harsh, and bitter. We want to be open to You and Your love in our lives. Lord, we want to keep our trust in You. Give us the innocence and enthusiasm of a child. Keep us from filling our thoughts with worries about what if this or that. Instead, when things get tough, let us remember nevertheless You will work things out for our good and Your glory. Amen.

Saturday: Transform and Renew

October 18, 2013 11:16 PM by Diane

And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. Romans 12:2.

Dear God, The earth is only our temporary home. We set our standards and ways of being based on Your word and guidance. Help us be transformed and renewed in our thoughts and actions. We want to be more like You and live our lives knowing that Your eternity starts now. This present world will pass away but You are forever. Amen.

Friday Prayer Focus - God's Love... Read Slowly

October 17, 2013 10:48 PM by Dan

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.   John 3:16

We have heard, read and seen this scripture so many times... Dear Lord, don't let the truth and the intensity of it evade us. Please dear God, help us ponder it, meditate on it, live it.  We are so thankful to You dear Lord.  We will continue to raise thankful hands in prayer and praise.  You have made a way for us in the vast endless sea of this universe.  You have given us hope and a future and a promise.  We believe in You.
