Wednesday: New Every Morning

December 31, 2013 4:23 PM by Diane

Through the Lord's mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness. "The Lord is my portion," says my soul, "Therefore I hope in Him!" Lamentations 3:22-24.

Dear God, Here we are with another new year. We talk about the anticipation of a new year and the new start it provides. We make lofty resolutions about the self improvements we will accomplish. However, Your word tells us that Your mercies are new every morning. We do not need a new year; we need to face each day looking to Your compassionate love, grace, and mercy that provides all our needs. Thank you for the gift of each new day. Truely, great is Your faithfulness. Amen.

Monday AM Prayer Focus: Trials

December 29, 2013 7:10 PM by Diane

Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written: "For Your sake we are killed all day long; We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter." Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. Romans 8:35-37.

Lord, still today people suffer for standing up for You and Your Word. Trials and persecution are not new to believers. Many have lost jobs, family, and friends because of their love for You. Some are imprisoned or have given their very lives. Help us to stand firm in our faith.. None of us know when or if we will have to face hardships rather than deny You. Let us pray for those who are enduring trials and difficulties. Give us Your courage and peace.  Amen.

Saturday: Consider the Poor

December 27, 2013 11:53 PM by Diane

Blessed is he who considers the poor; The Lord will deliver him in time of trouble. The Lord will preserve him and keep him alive, and he will be blessed on the earth; You will not deliver him to the will of his enemies.  Psalm 41: 1-2.

Dear God, There are so many hurting people all around us. The situations and reasons are endless. You ask us to offer help. Give us Your wisdom to know how each of us can use our time, talents, and finances to reach out to someone in need. It could mean helping a family member, a friend, a neighbor, a co-worker, or an organization that provides relief. Open our eyes to see the opportunities all around us. Grant us willing hearts. Amen.

Friday Prayer Focus - Evidence of our Faith

December 26, 2013 8:21 PM by Dan

My beloved friends, let us continue to love each other since love comes from God. Everyone who loves is born of God and experiences a relationship with God. The person who refuses to love doesn’t know the first thing about God, because God is love—so you can’t know him if you don’t love. This is how God showed his love for us: God sent his only Son into the world so we might live through him. This is the kind of love we are talking about—not that we once upon a time loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to clear away our sins and the damage they’ve done to our relationship with God.

My dear, dear friends, if God loved us like this, we certainly ought to love each other. No one has seen God, ever. But if we love one another, God dwells deeply within us, and his love becomes complete in us—perfect love!

                                                 1 John 4:7-12  (The Message)

Truly He taught us to love one another,
His law is love and His gospel is peace.
Chains He shall break, for the slave is our brother.
And in His name, all oppression shall cease   (O Holy Night lyric)

Thank you God for loving us and showing Yourself to us in kindness toward us.  Help us to learn to love one another. Help us to bring peace into places where we live, work, shop and live out our lives. Teach us not to hold anyone back with chains of criticism. Teach us to bless and not curse. To encourage, inspire and be gracious as your have been gracious to us.

Monday AM Prayer Focus: Wait

December 22, 2013 9:33 PM by Diane

Wait on the Lord; be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart; wait, I say, on the Lord! Psalm 27:14.

Dear Lord, Waiting is hard. We remember when we were kids waiting for Christmas to come. It was so hard to wait. Each day seemed like a month. Now, we are older and sometimes it is still hard to wait. We want things now. We want answers now. However, sometimes we have to wait and that takes trust and patience. O Lord, it is hard for us to be patient in our fast paced society. Calm our hearts, worries, and fears. We choose to rest quietly in Your peace knowing You will work all things out in Your timing. We love You! Amen.

Saturday: Plans

December 20, 2013 9:33 PM by Diane

There are many plans in a man's heart. Nevertheless the Lord's counsel - that will stand. Proverbs 20:21.

Dear God, How true it is that we all have many plans, especially during this time of year. We rush here and there; we plan out every minute of our day. Help us to stop and seek Your counsel for what we should and should not do. Lead us by Your Word and by the Holy Spirit. Dear Lord, we need You to order our days. Help us to accomplish what is important to You and let other things get removed from our lists. Help us to reprioritize so we have time, energy, and focus to worship You with great joy as we celebrate Your birth. Amen.

Friday Prayer - Earnest Prayer

December 19, 2013 9:45 PM by Dan

Elijah was a human being, even as we are. He prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the land for three and a half years. Again he prayed, and the heavens gave rain, and the earth produced its crops. James 5:17-18

We come before You in earnest today Father, knowing You see all things, our strengths and our faults. We are human and You are God. We bow our hearts before You. We ask You to help resolve our world's crisis areas. We pray about Syria today. It seems like a large prayer like Elijah prayed. We don't understand how a solution would come. But there was not much hope for rain in Elijah's day, so we believe as he did, that you answer prayer, and that you can answer this one... please bring peace to Syria today.

Thursday AM Prayer Focus - Joy for our city

December 18, 2013 9:49 PM by Roger

The angel told the shepherds "glad tiding of great joy for all the people ..."  Luke 2:10

This joy is not just for us who know the story,  it's for all the people.  It's for everyone in our city.   Let's pray for this joy to be ours this year,  for joy in the stores,  for joy in busy traffic,  for joy in the workplace,  in our schools,  in our homes,  in our churches.

Let's pray for joy unspeakable and full of glory.  But then, let's make every effort to express it to our neighbors.

There is a remedy for the holiday stress.   It's good news of great joy in the incarnation.   There is a remedy for the loneliness, depression, and desperation that settles into a soul at Christmas time.   It's glad tiding of great joy for all the people.  A Savior was born who saved us to the uttermost.   Let's pray for outbursts of joy - for everyone.

Monday AM Prayer Focus: Whoever

December 15, 2013 5:09 PM by Diane

And it shall come to pass that whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved. Acts 2:21

Dear God, Thank you for this amazing promise. Whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved! Anyone on this planet can be saved from a life of futility and eternal death by calling on the name of Jesus. Help us to spread this good news to every people group. We pray those who have not heard about or understood this promise from God will have the opportunity to accept Jesus as Savior and Lord. Amen.

Saturday: Face to Face

December 13, 2013 9:58 PM by Diane

For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known. I Corinthians 13:12.

Dear Lord, Help us to see You more clearly. We know that this side of heaven, we do not understand or comprehend many things. However, help us to grow and be more open to Your word and leading. We desire a closer walk with You now and look forward to heaven when we shall be be face to face. Amen.
