Friday Prayer: Blessings and Thanks

May the Lord answer you when you are in distress;
may the name of the God of Jacob protect you.
May he send you help from the sanctuary
and grant you support from Zion.
May he remember all your sacrifices
and accept your burnt offerings.
 
May he give you the desire of your heart
and make all your plans succeed.
May we shout for joy over your victory
and lift up our banners in the name of our God.  Psalm 20:1-5
 
We remember this morning that You are the source of all blessing, all comfort, all protection Lord God. We celebrate that in reading Psalm 20 and knowing that your blessings are near. That you would give us the desires of our heart and make all our plans succeed. You love us that much. Thank you Lord for Your kindness to us.

Friday Prayer: Strength of Job

After Job had prayed for his friends, the Lord restored his fortunes and gave him twice as much as he had before.  Job 42:10

Dear Lord, You asked Job to pray for his friends and he did. What a tremendous demonstration of love. In particular after Job had suffered so much verbal abuse from them. He had to be a humble man to forgive them and to follow through with a kindness of prayer to demonstrate that forgiveness. Lord, teach us to pray for each other. Even those who have offended us. Give us the strength of Job.

Friday Prayer: Hand of Mercy

Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. I say to myself, “The Lord is my portion; therefore I will wait for him.”  Lamentations 3:22-24

 

Lord, we wait for You this morning, praising You for Your faithfulness to us.  Lord, Your mercy extends to those who wait on You. Thank you for Your answers. Thank You for Your mercy. Help us to recognize Your hand of mercy on us.

Friday Prayer: The Field

The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field. Matt. 13:44

 

Today we ask that You would give our city faith to purchase the field that holds the treasure. To let go of the old ways of looking at things and see that the things that You are bringing us to are more important and more vital than any other pursuit in this world. Help us to sell our old stuff and purchase the field of faith in You. The work that You have given, the view of this earth that knowledge of who You are brings to us. Please help us Lord to abandon selfish pursuits, careless thoughts, foolish fears, past regrets, painful memories and see a glorious future that we never imagined. A treasure. For the rest of all time.

Friday Prayer: God's Goodness

And the Lord said, “I will cause all my goodness to pass in front of you, and I will proclaim my name, the Lord, in your presence. I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion. Exodus 33:19

 

Dear Lord God, it is impossible to imagine what Moses felt. All Your goodness. What glory. What power. I don't equate goodness with power, but it is. You create power through our goodness also. I am thankful that You teach us goodness. Your way to love others and humanity. You set the example. You showed us the way. Help us to love like You did. Teach us Your ways Lord. Teach the church in Albany to draw strength from the power of Your goodness.

Friday Prayer: Call on His Name

At that time people began to call on the name of the Lord. Gen. 4:26b

 

Dear Lord, it appears that when Adam and Eve fell, it took some time before them and their families realized that they needed to call upon You even though You no longer walked with them because of their sin. We Your people make the choice to call on You today, praising You,  worshiping You and thanking You for all that You have done.  You are no longer far from us, but You are here, near us. Help us all as Christians to get beyond our own failings. Help us to call on You and discover You near.  Today we pray for our community of saints that they will seek Your face.

Friday Prayer: Salvation

Simeon took him in his arms and praised God, saying:

“Sovereign Lord, as you have promised,
    you may now dismiss your servant in peace.
For my eyes have seen your salvation,
   which you have prepared in the sight of all nations:

 a light for revelation to the Gentiles,
    and the glory of your people Israel.”  Luke 2:28-32

 

Dear Lord, Simeon saw You as Salvation for mankind, today we pray that mankind will see You as their Salvation. We pray that eyes will see You today in this new year as they never have before. God's Son given to us as a new way to live. As an example to understand. And through our understanding becoming our Salvation, our Redeemer.

Friday Prayer: Earnestly

Oh God, You are my God. I shall seek You earnestly. My soul thirsts for You. My flesh yearns for You in a dry and weary land where there is no water. Psalm 63:1

 

Dear Lord help us to be truthful, focused, open-eyed in wonder for each day we are given. Let us not lose sight of You or lose interest in pursuing You. We need Your strength and favor. Forgive us our sins. Keep us from straying from the truth. Keep us from temptation. Deliver us from evil. Let our hearts be drawn to You more each and every day, even in a cold world that is dry of the things of the Spirit.

Friday Prayer: Seeing

As Jesus approached Jericho, a blind man was sitting by the roadside begging. When he heard the crowd going by, he asked what was happening. They told him, “Jesus of Nazareth is passing by.” He called out, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” Those who led the way rebuked him and told him to be quiet, but he shouted all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!” Jesus stopped and ordered the man to be brought to him. When he came near, Jesus asked him, “What do you want me to do for you?” “Lord, I want to see,” he replied. Jesus said to him, “Receive your sight; your faith has healed you.” Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus, praising God. When all the people saw it, they also praised God.  Luke 18:35-43

Lord, like the blind man, we can be blind to many things in our own lives. We can't see them just like the blind man couldn't see things around him. Our only hope is to cry out to You for healing, wisdom and strength. How much we need to be well in areas that we have failed in! Please come and heal your people. Mighty Holy Spirit, have Your way in our lives. Help us to make straight paths in our lives, so we will not stumble in our blindness, but run the race in your pure light.

Friday Prayer: Sing of Salvation

Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation  and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.Then I will teach transgressors your ways so that sinners will turn back to you. Deliver me from the guilt of bloodshed, O God, you who are God my Savior, and my tongue will sing of your righteousness. Open my lips, Lord, and my mouth will declare your praise.  You do not delight in sacrifice, or I would bring it; you do not take pleasure in burnt offerings. My sacrifice, O God, is a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart you, God, will not despise.

 

Lord we want to praise Your name this morning. We want to sing and rejoice in Your salvation. Your purchase of us. Your forgiveness of our sins. Your desire to have a relationship with us. What a miracle. What a wonder. That You care for us. That You love us. Thank You God. We are always be thankful that You are willing to restore us, renew us and make us whole.
